About Scanning & PDF. . .
When scanning and converting your paper document to PDF, ABS offers you several standard options:
PDF Image Only - These documents are simply a bitmapped image of the original document and are therefore less costly to produce. These files are for viewing only; they have no text search capabilities. This PDF format has the smallest file size and is ideal for archiving.
PDF Image plus Captured Text - The search option of recognized text allows you to find keywords or a specific string of text. This PDF file format has a larger file size than Image Only. This PDF format is ideal for publishing reports or documents that you want to have the capability for keyword specific searches.
PDF Image plus Hidden Text - These documents have combined features of PDF Image Only and PDF Image plus Captured Test. These documents are "searchable;" the text lies "hidden" underneath the bitmapped image, providing for a full text search, but allowing you to retain an exact copy of the document in the image layer. This PDF format has the largest file size and is ideal for all documents where you want an exact copy of the document.
ABS can insert navigational aids such as bookmarks and hyperlinks throughout your PDF documents, providing the customer with "point & click" navigation.
Benefits of PDF
PDF is the preferred electronic document distribution format used in many organizations today; this is primarily due to the following benefits:
Compact file size for efficient electronic distribution. All fonts, text, formatting, graphics and images are self-contained, within one PDF file.
WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). The scanned documents have the same look as the original document; maintains the fonts, colours, layout and images exactly as they were created.
PDF works independently of:
|
- the hardware used to create the PDF file. |
|
|
- the operating system software used; e.g. Windows, Mac, Unix. |
|
|
- the application software versions used. |
Scanning rates vary according to document quality, size and quantity of pages.
